On Sunday, the Union Health Ministry confirmed that the total number of people infected with the coronavirus in India stands at 110, up from 93 on Saturday. As of today, India has 112 confirmed Covid-19 cases across the country. While 13 patients have been cured, two people in Delhi and Karnataka died last week.

Of the 19 new cases, 15 are from Maharashtra and two are from Kerala, while Rajasthan and Karnataka both account for one case each. Maharashtra, which now has 33 officially confirmed cases, surpassed Kerala as the nation's most-affected state. The virus is bound to spread further in Maharashtra, with reports indicating four new cases that are yet to be confirmed by the Union Health Ministry. According to a state official, three of these four cases are from Mumbai, while the other is from Navi Mumbai. As of now, all of Maharashtra's cases have been recorded in Pune, Mumbai, Nagpur, Yavatmal, Thane, and Ahmednagar.

The rising number of cases prompted the Maharashtra state government to invoke the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 on Saturday in order to shut down schools, colleges, and malls until 31 March.

Over the last few days, the central and several state governments have shut down schools, colleges, malls, gymnasiums, and cinemas. In addition, several border checkpoints have been closed and multiple international air passengers have been quarantined. Authorities have also issued advisories asking people to practice social distancing to slow down the spread of the disease and prevent the healthcare system from becoming overburdened.
