Indian PM Narendra Modi has suggested that the three newly introduced criminal laws be rolled out in all Union Territories in a phased manner by the end of this year. Earlier, the plan was to implement them in Chandigarh alone. During the annual police meeting in Jaipur on 7 January, Modi also suggested the formation of a joint task force for the North Eastern states in order to curtail insurgency.

Congratulating the people of Bangladesh for the successful elections, Modi said that India is committed to further strengthening its enduring and people-centric partnership with its eastern neighbour. 


Polish officials have refused to cooperate with an international investigation into the Nord Stream natural gas pipeline sabotage and failed to share potentially critical evidence, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing European investigators working on the case. Investigators have long suspected that the attack was launched from Ukraine via Poland. However, senior officials say Warsaw’s unwillingness to cooperate fully has made it difficult to determine whether the attack was carried out with or without the knowledge of the former Polish government.


US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MbS) in Al-Ula, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said on Monday. Blinken emphasised the need to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza and prevent the violence from escalating further. The Secretary and MbS also discussed “ongoing efforts to reduce regional tensions, including deterrence of Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea,” Miller said. 


A federal district court in California sentenced a former US Navy sailor on Monday to 27 months in prison and a $5,500 fine for providing “controlled and classified” details of large-scale US military exercises in the Indo-Pacific region to Chinese intelligence agencies in exchange for bribery payments, the US Department of Justice revealed.


The Myanmar military carried out an airstrike on the Kanan village, which is under the control of the pro-democracy resistance forces, in the country’s northwest Sagaing region. The attack killed at least 17 civilians, including nine children, local residents said on Sunday.
