India has served a demarche to the Canadian government on the protests planned by pro-Khalistan terrorist outfits outside Indian High Commission in Ottawa and two consulates in Toronto and Vancouver on 8 July. New Delhi has insisted that Justin Trudeau’s government take measures to prevent the protestors from assembling close to missions and consulates, desecrating the Indian National Flag, and engaging in other anti-India activities. To this end, Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly tweeted that Canada takes its obligations under the Vienna Convention very seriously, and remains in close contact with Indian officials regarding the issue.


Amina J. Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary-General (DSG) of the UN, arrived in India for her three-day visit on Monday. In her first visit to India since her reappointment for a second term in 2022, the DSG will meet Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. The visit is an opportunity to exchange views on India’s ongoing G20 Presidency and its achievements in Sustainable Development Goals.


Japanese PM Fumio Kishida will meet with Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), later today. Grossi will present the IAEA’s conclusive findings regarding the discharge of treated radioactive wastewater into the ocean from the Fukushima nuclear plant. Thus far, the IAEA has consistently provided favourable interim assessments. The final report is anticipated to affirm the adequacy of the water sampling, testing, and monitoring procedures implemented for the release, ensuring compliance with international standards.


Yoshihide Suga, the former PM of Japan, is embarking on a visit to India today along with a business delegation comprising over 100 members. The purpose of the visit is to promote Japanese investments in India. During the trip, Suga is anticipated to visit Ahmedabad to assess the progress of the High-Speed Railway (Shinkansen) project under construction. Additionally, he is scheduled to meet with Indian PM Narendra Modi in New Delhi later in the week.


On Monday, Ukraine’s Finance Ministry reported that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) contributed $890 million to Ukraine’s state budget as part of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) Arrangement. According to the Ministry, this is the second tranche of a $15.6 billion aid package for Ukraine under the EFF agreement. The ministry confirmed that Kyiv has already received $3.66 billion from the IMF. The IMF claims that despite Russian hostility, Ukraine has made significant progress towards upholding its obligations under the EFF.


Indian refiners have begun paying some Russian oil imports in Chinese yuan as Western sanctions compel Moscow and its clients to seek alternatives to the dollar for payment settlement, according to sources with direct knowledge. Indian Oil Corp (IOC.NS), the country’s largest importer of Russian crude oil, became the first state refiner to pay for some Russian purchases in yuan in June, as stated by the sources.


The Israeli military launched its biggest counterterrorism operation in the West Bank in almost two decades on Monday. The military sent thousands of troops to the refugee camp in Jenin and launched at least ten airstrikes against terrorist infrastructure. The operation was launched following multiple attacks against Israelis in recent weeks originating from Jenin. Per reports, at least eight Palestinians have been killed by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The Palestinian Authority (PA) condemned the raids and President Mahmoud Abbas has suspended all security cooperation with Israel.
