The Indian Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Canadian High Commissioner on Saturday to formally protest against the attacks on the Indian mission and consulates in Canada over the past week. The Indian officials expressed concern about the security breach in the presence of police. They further emphasised that Ottawa violated international law in failing to protect India’s diplomatic mission.


Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan said in a media interview on Thursday that the international community must recognise the Taliban regime before demanding reforms on human rights. He said that countries would be unable to influence the group if it is kept isolated.


South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles from its eastern province of North Hwanghae on Monday morning. The missiles flew about 370km and landed outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.


Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that his government is “not creating any military alliance with China.” However, Putin acknowledged that the two countries “have cooperation in the sphere of military-technical interaction” and that his government was “not hiding this.” 


An Under-20 FIFA World Cup draw involving Israel and scheduled for this Friday has been cancelled, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) said in a statement. PSSI informed Reuters that Bali’s Governor, Wayan Koster, was against hosting Israel’s team and had sent a letter to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, urging it to “adopt a policy forbidding the Israeli team from competing in Bali” due to the Israel-Palestine conflict. Indonesia, which is predominantly Muslim, had witnessed protests calling for Israel's exclusion from the tournament in Jakarta earlier this month.


The CEO of Saudi state-owned Aramco, Amin Nasser, announced on Sunday that the energy company has agreed to start production of a mega refining and petrochemical complex in China’s Liaoning province. Aramco also expressed support for Beijing’s long-term energy security and development. The move comes weeks after the Chinese government negotiated a peace deal between Saudi Arabia and Iran.


Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu sacked his Defence Minister Yoav Gallant on Sunday, a day after the official urged the government to halt plans to overhaul the judiciary. An official release by Netanyahu’s office said Gallant had been transferred from his post, but it remains unclear whether the Likud party will assign him another portfolio. The event occurred as thousands of demonstrators gathered across Israel to protest the changes to the judiciary.


On Sunday, the Ukrainian government called for an emergency meeting with the UN Security Council (UNSC) to oppose Russian President Vladimir Putin’s plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. It urged the other permanent members of the UNSC — the US, the UK, China, and France — to take necessary actions to “counter the nuclear threat from the Kremlin.” Putin announced on Saturday that Moscow would finish building a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus by 1 July. 


US President Joe Biden visited Canadian PM Justin Trudeau in Ottawa on Friday, close on the heels of the Moscow summit held by Russia and China last week. In addition to pledging to “defend every inch of NATO territory,” both leaders agreed to develop semiconductor capacity and exploit Canada’s critical mineral resources to scale up the production of electric vehicles and batteries to reduce dependence on China.
