Mass shootings at several sites, including a pub and a bowling alley in Lewiston, Maine, on Wednesday resulted in at least 22 deaths, as reported by NBC, citing a Lewiston police source. The Lewiston Police Department listed a person of interest in the mass shooting at the tavern and bowling alley as Robert Card, on Facebook, warning that he should be “considered armed and dangerous.”


Saudi Arabia intercepted one of the cruise missiles fired towards Israel by Iran-backed Houthi rebels from Yemen last week, the Wall Street Journal reported. The USS Carney guided missile cruiser was known to have shot down the other four missiles, but Saudi involvement in the missile defence operations was uncertain until now. Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder stated that the US has no evidence that Iran “explicitly ordered” the recent missile attacks by its proxies.


The Union Cabinet chaired by Indian PM Narendra Modi has approved a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) signed between Japan and India in July 2023 on Semiconductor Supply Chain Partnership. The MoC was undertaken by the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. It aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the semiconductor supply chain, recognising the relevance of semiconductors in the progress of industries and digital technologies.


Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek on 25 October for a two-day visit, during which he will attend the 22nd meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government. Jaishankar was received by Deputy Foreign Minister Aibek Moldogaziev on his arrival. During his visit, Jaishankar will meet his Kyrgyz counterpart, Zheenbek Kulubaev, and President Sadyr Japarov. He is also scheduled to meet with his counterparts from other SCO member states.


South Korea, Japan, and the US strongly condemned North Korea’s supply of arms and military equipment to Russia for its war in Ukraine, adding that they had confirmed “several” deliveries of such weapons.


US President Joe Biden is expected to speak with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi when the latter visits the White House this week. Wang will also meet National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday.
