On Wednesday, the US-India Counter-terrorism Joint Working Group issued a statement declaring the mutual call for the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai and Pathankot terrorist attacks to be brought to justice.
According to the statement, both countries emphasised the enduring significance of their comprehensive global and strategic alliance. They reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorism and enhancing regional security, highlighting these as essential aspects of their broader bilateral cooperation. “Both sides reiterated that terrorism remains a serious threat to international peace and security. Countering terrorism remains an important element in ensuring prosperity and peace for Americans, Indians, and global citizens,” the statement read.
Furthermore, the document called for coordinated action against all terrorist groups, including those designated by the UN Security Council (UNSC) 1267 Sanctions Committee, such as al-Qaida, the Islamic State, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba (LeT), and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).

Furthermore, the two sides discussed emerging terrorist threats and tactics, such as the use of the internet and new and emerging technologies for terrorist purposes, international terrorist movements, terrorist recruitment, terrorist financing, and radicalisation to violence and violent extremism. In this regard, Washington and New Delhi reiterated their commitment to information sharing, capacity building, and continued bilateral and multilateral efforts to address these threats.
Additionally, both sides agreed to strengthen law enforcement and judicial partnerships in support of the rule of law, including enhanced data sharing and cooperation on mutual legal assistance requests.
In the concluding remarks, the US and India reaffirmed their commitment to working together in the Quad Counterterrorism Working Group and other multilateral fora and processes such as the UN, the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to advance regional security interests while advocating for a free, open, inclusive, and resilient Indo-Pacific.
