Domestic Politics
Thousands of Liberians took to the streets of Monrovia to protest against economic mismanagement under President George Weah's government. Many are waiting for salaries to be paid, and are worried by rising inflation. [Africa Feeds]

Lesotho Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has been suspended from his own party, the All Basotho Convention (ABC). He has come under fire for allowing his wife to ‘meddle’ in government affairs. The country's police chief also accused him of killing his ex-wife in 2017. [The Citizen]

International Relations
This past year, Rwanda accused Uganda of sabotaging shared trade and infrastructure projects, torturing Rwandan tourists in Uganda, supporting rebels, and trying to instigate regime change in Kigali. Several border points between the two countries remain closed since March 2019. [The East African]

An al-Shabab attack on a military base used by US and Kenyan military personnel killed one US military service member and two US contractors. They destroyed at least two planes, two US helicopters, and multiple US military vehicles. [Al Jazeera]

Society
A bomb blast in the Nigerian state of Borno, which borders Cameroon, killed at least 30 people. Although no group has taken responsibility, both Boko Haram and ISWAP, the regional offshoot of the Islamic State, are active in the area. [Africa Feeds]

The World Health Organization reports that over 6,000 people have now died from measles since last January in the Democratic Republic of Congo. [eNCA]

Environment
Senegal is building West Africa's largest wind farm. It will increase the country's energy supply by 15%; offset carbon emissions by 300,000; and supply 158MW of clean energy. The increased access to electricity is expected to increase GDP by at least 5%. [Africa Happenings]

Business
South Africa's GDP contracted by 0.6% in the third quarter after declines in the mining, manufacturing, and transport industries. However, there was growth in the trade, government, and finance sectors. [Mail & Guardian]
