Chinese President Xi Jinping is speculated to be concerned about the potential collapse of the Communist Party of China (CCP), as approximately 415 million people (unverified number from The Greek City Times report) worldwide have reportedly resigned from the party since 1 July.

Although the claims in this report are unverified, it has been cited by major Indian news outlets including ANI, NDTV, and Mint.

“Inevitable Death”

The Greek City Times (GCT) reported on Tuesday that the en masse resignations also included resignations from the CCP’s “regiments, teams, and other associated organisations.”

According to the GCT article, Xi has “repeatedly been issuing warnings about the death of the CCP which, if not dealt with, seems inevitable.”

It argued that at the recent SCO Summit, Xi stated his opposition to any country’s instigation of “colour revolutions” and “interference in internal affairs” for any reason.

He also urged member states to be wary of the “external forces” creating “a scenario for the new cold war and setting up confrontational camps.”

CCP Collapse?

The GCT article refers to one of Xis speeches from last year, wherein the Chinese leader stressed the importance of upholding the beliefs of Marxism and Communism under the banner of Chinese characteristics, the lack of which could “lead to a similar sort of disintegration as witnessed in the case of the Soviet Union if not taken seriously,” the GCT wrote.

The report added that the en masse resignations are coupled with the Asian superpower’s “deteriorating internal and external difficulties, increasing rivalry with the international community led by the US, and the challenges it faces on the economic and social front.”

Due to this, the paper says, “policy matters pursued by the CCP authorities are becoming unpopular by the day, with massive public criticism at home and abroad, followed by the new trend of millions quitting the party.” This, GCT claims, has “shaken up the party leadership as it is a clear sign of the erosion of influence CCP has among the Chinese people.”

Dissent

This combination of factors has made the party “more totalitarian with massive crackdowns on the Chinese oligarchs, people’s freedom and liberty, censoring internet criticism, and more and more concentration of power at the hands of Xi,” the article said.

However, it claimed that “dissent still manifests itself,” as millions of individuals quit the party globally “as a sign of disapproval of the party’s tactics of suppressing people’s voices and liberty.”
