Addressing the Indian diaspora in the UK during his trip to attend King Charles’ Coronation Ceremony, Indian Vice President (VP) Jagdeep Dhankhar said that there are no people in India who are looking to get employed but are unable to do so.

He added that this success results from India’s “flourishing, blossoming democracy,” which focuses on the “empowerment of the ordinary man.”

The statement contrasts recent reports suggesting that the unemployment rate in India hit a four-month high in April, with over 8.11% unemployed. Nevertheless, India is also witnessing a record-high number of people joining the workforce, with 25.5 million added in April.

The comments also follow recent reports of India ranking low on press freedoms and religious freedoms

On UK Visit

Dhankhar celebrated the 1.7 million Indians in the UK, who have exemplified India with their “amazing capability.” He lauded them as “highly qualified, empowered, and vigilant.”

The VP urged the Indian community to contribute to India’s goal to retain its position as the “hub of manufacturing activity for the globe” by securing its reputation in the global market.

In addition, he cautioned the Indian community to be wary of being “swayed” by criticisms and probes against India and counter “untenable, ill-premised, unfounded narratives.”

Dhankhar declared that India has evolved to become the world’s “fifth largest economy,” and will become the third largest economy by the end of this decade. “Credit goes to every hard-working Indian, worker, farmer, effective government policies, and honest execution of the policies in a transparent and accountable manner,” the VP added.

PM Modi’s Successes

The VP highlighted Indian PM Narendra Modi’s success in transforming “1/6th of humanity to an unimaginable level.” In this regard, he underscored India’s success in societal parameters as mitigating the “suffering of the people” by “empowering the common man.”

He further said that Modi had led infrastructural growth such as air, road, and rail connectivity.

Dhankhar also emphasized India’s successes in digital payment and internet accessibility. He noted that even villages in India have “technological inroads,” allowing them to access services like passport registration, ticket booking, or delivery payment.

The VP lauded the recent National Education Policy, which will address “inequities in society” and allow the “emancipation of the vulnerable and empowerment of youth.”

He went on to hail India’s successes in ensuring access to democratic institutions at the ground-root levels, such as the election commission, judiciary, and legislature.

To this end, Dhankhar declared, “The moment of glory for India has come; this moment of glory is being reflected by ground reality.” He added that the world recognised this success, wherein India has evolved to become the “land of opportunities” and “a favoured destination for investment.”
