The Indian Defence Ministry announced on Tuesday that the Indian Navy launched its largest war game in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
The 2023 edition of the Navy’s biennial Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise (TROPEX) is underway, the Ministry said in a statement. The exercise will also witness the participation of Army, Air Force, and Coast Guard units.

The exercise is being conducted over a three-month period from January to March. According to the release, the drills will see the Navy deploying destroyers, frigates, corvettes, submarines, and aircraft, which will be “put through complex maritime operational deployments.”
“The exercise is being conducted in different phases, both in harbour and at sea, encompassing various facets of combat operations, including live weapon firings,” the statement said.

The primary aim of TROPEX is to “test the combat readiness of the combined Fleets of the Indian Navy to operate in a multi-threat environment.” It would also facilitate the Navy’s operational-level interaction with the other participating units.
This will “further strengthen interoperability and joint operations,” the Ministry noted.
