On Monday, former Russian President and Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev predicted that the European Union (EU) will collapse after the United Kingdom (UK) returns to the bloc next year, and also forecasted a civil war in the United States (US) leading to the independence of California and Texas.

He added that Texas and Mexico will become an “allied state” and billionaire Elon Musk would become the next US president of the states given to the Republicans following the civil war.

In a post on Telegram, Medvedev wished the West a “Happy New Year” by making a series of “absurd” predictions, which could happen next year, including Poland and Hungary capturing western Ukraine, oil and gas prices reaching $150 per barrel and $5,000 per 1,000 cubic meters respectively, and Northern Ireland acceding to Ireland following its separation from Great Britain.

He also predicted the “creation of the Fourth Reich” consisting of Germany and its satellite states - Poland, the Baltic states, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Kyiv Republic, and “other outcasts.” Medvedev observed that the subsequent war between France and the Fourth Reich would result in the “partition of Europe, including a new partition of Poland.”

Additionally, he also mentioned that all major stock markets and financial activities would transfer from the US and Europe to Asia, the euro and the dollar would no longer be regarded as world reserve currencies, the return of the gold standard, and transitioning toward “the active use of digital fiat currencies.” Furthermore, Medvedev also anticipated the fall of the Bretton Woods financial system, including the collapse of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday asserted that Ukraine must accept the Russian proposals “in an amicable way,” or “the Russian Army will deal with this issue.”

In this respect, Lavrov noted, “The enemy is well aware of our proposals on the demilitarisation and denazification of the [Kyiv] regime’s controlled territories, the elimination of threats to Russia’s security that come from there and it includes our new territories [Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia Regions].”

In September, people in Ukraine’s Russia-controlled regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia voted by an “overwhelming majority” to join Russia in several referenda conducted from 23-27 September that have been firmly condemned as a “sham” by the West. Putin signed their accession treaties the following month, declaring that the results reflected the people’s “unequivocal choice” to join Russia.

However, last month, Ukrainian forces took over Kherson while Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu ordered the “safe relocation of the personnel, armaments and hardware behind the Dnieper” river from the Russian-controlled city of Kherson to “preserve” Russian troops’ lives.

Moreover, on Monday, Lavrov asserted, “It is no secret that the strategic goal of the US and its NATO allies is to win a victory over Russia on the battlefield as a mechanism of weakening or even destroying our country,” adding that Washington has been greatly benefited by this “hot conflict.”

“Washington has also been solving a key geopolitical goal of breaking the traditional bonds between Russia and Europe and making their European satellites even more dependent on them,” Lavrov emphasised, further claiming that it is “objectively impossible” to maintain normal relations with the Biden administration and that the ties are in a “deplorable state.”

Additionally, he noted that Russia-EU relations are “at historic lows” with the bloc waging a “hybrid war against us.” “Naturally, there will be no more ‘business as usual’ with such counterparties. We do not intend either to knock on closed doors or initiate any joint projects,” Lavrov stressed.

With regards to ending the Ukraine war, Lavrov on Monday opined that “the ball is on the court’s side of the [Kyiv] regime and Washington, which stands behind it.” “They can put an end at any time to this senseless resistance,” he added.

His comments came a day after President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia is “ready to negotiate with everyone involved about acceptable solutions” concerning the Ukraine war. In fact, last week, Putin reportedly referred to the conflict as a war for the first time since his troops marched into Ukraine on 24 February, saying, “Our goal is not to spin the flywheel of military conflict, but, on the contrary, to end this war,” adding that Moscow will “strive” to halt hostilities as soon as possible.

Noting that the “intensification of hostilities leads to unjustified losses,” Putin stressed that he would seek a diplomatic solution to the crisis in Ukraine. He made the comments as Russian military casualties reportedly crossed 100,000 for the first time since the invasion began.  According to the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, Russia has lost about 103,220 troops, over 3,000 tanks, nearly 2,000 artillery systems, and more than 1,700 drones.

“All armed conflicts end one way or another with some kind of negotiations on the diplomatic track,” Putin remarked, further claiming, “The sooner this realisation comes to those who oppose us, the better. We have never given up on this.”

However, Ukraine has rejected Russia’s offer of peace, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declaring, “Ukraine holds its lines and will never surrender” last week and maintaining that Russia needs to withdraw from all Ukrainian territories.
