Words in English emerge and die out frequently. Media such as television and the use of words as well as synonyms can be factors towards how the words remain in use in the English language.

The first authorized English translation of the Bible, from Hebrew to English, is the King James Version.  This version was the cornerstone of development as translators were concerned in producing a renewed version of the Bible, which is accessible across the globe. This authorized version of the Bible was for public and private use.  The English language was able to spread through this and during the British Empire’s development. (East India Company). The language spread swiftly and vastly because smaller, carry -easier copies of the Bible had been produced that travelled faster than the language itself. As a public use; churches with these copies of the Bible delivered worship in the English language and thus aided the quick spread of English and it’s remain as the dominant global language.

English, as a lingua franca, has united different cultures in South Africa. This was done through church as people came to pray. English was the common denominator between the local South African cultures.

Ebonics or Black Vernacular English is a non-standard form of American English, characteristically spoken by African Americans. It was formerly known as slang before it was recognized as a legitimate dialect. Ebonics should be considered appropriate in formal situations because of its legitimacy as a dialect. That is how a specific group of people speaks.

The difference between slang and dialect is that slang is informal language consisting of words and expressions not considered appropriate for formal occasions whereas dialect is the usage of vocabulary that is characteristic to a specific set/group of people.

As a global language, English could potentially interfere with cultural identity when taking into consideration the effects it has on he 2nd language speakers who must first translate English into their mother tongue before they are able to understand what is being said and then retranslate their reply into English. This would suggest that the English being spoken is not the English it hears to be, but the English of the language it is being translated from.  Predominantly, the English is the desired choice of language, even when job applications are being reviewed. Most cultures speak with English rather than their native language.

When the post-colonial debate in India is taken into question, Indians were at risk of losing their cultural identity. Despite having over half a century’s independence; Hindu ideology and ideas have been mixed with English ideas, education in English has spread across the country and even novels are given more recognition written in the English language rather than in Hindi. English has marginalized Hindi writers. However, writing and publishing in English would majorly benefit publishers in India as the English written books are accredited higher than their identical Hindi novels, as well as the greater demand which would provide publishers with more money.
